Monique is an absurd party game of word association that promises you wild evenings!
Each player is dealt 4 to 5 cards, depending on the number of players. The remaining cards form a draw pile.
The first player places a face-up card of their choice and reads it aloud, for example "Goat". You have 4 choices:
1. Place a Word card face up on top of the previous one. Your word must be related to the previous one. If the word has an obvious connection, for example "Cheese" with "Goat", your association is validated by the other players and your turn is over. However, if your word raises doubts, another player intervenes and says "I don't see the connection". You will then have to justify the connection between the 2 words. Everyone listens to your explanation then they proceed to a vote.
2. Place a Word card face down. This card may or may not be related to the previous word. A player can then say "You're bluffing!". You turn over your card and must justify yourself. A voting phase follows to determine if you have been convincing enough!
However, if no one calls your bluff, it's the next player's turn. The game resumes from the last revealed Word card.
3. Draw a card. You can play it immediately or pass your turn.
4. Play a Monique card instead of a Word card. Each card has its specificities written on it. The next player resumes from the last revealed Word card.
And the humor in all this?
If, during your justification, you manage to make your accuser laugh, you win! Well, your justification is validated.
Because you'll have to get rid of all your cards to truly win. Prepare your speech, the assembly is ready to vote!
Spice up your games with the red cards: only to be used when children and other sensitive souls are asleep. ;)
