In Saboteur: The Mine Responds, two teams of dwarf miners find themselves trapped in a cave. After an earthquake, breaches form and water floods the tunnels. Each player is officially part of one of the 2 teams but receives a hidden role indicating which team they are actually playing for. Path cards must be placed to advance towards the Exit cards, but only one of the 4 cards actually leads to the surface. You must discover who your true teammates are and then use cunning to set traps and send monsters after your opponents.
By playing one card after another, you will create paths deep within the earth, striving to reach an exit. Avoid fearsome underground creatures and spiderwebs, find shortcuts, use ladders, take secret tunnels... You must not delay, as the water flooding the tunnels disrupts your every move. Ultimately, the only thing that matters is the number of Gold Nuggets your clan members manage to save. But beware! There might be a Saboteur within each clan, working for the enemy. The clan that collects the most gold wins the game.
