There's excitement at the King's Court! Advisors bustle around the young monarch, each trying to stand out during this regency period. Once the King gains confidence, he will surely appoint his most loyal advisors to his government. How to distinguish oneself...? Strengthening one's position and weakening that of others – that's life at Court!
For The King (and I) is a redesign of the famous Biblios, developed by its author for even more intense games... and more players, as it is now possible to play with up to 5 players!
For The King (and I) is played in two distinct phases: Draft and Auctions.
During the first phase, players draw cards and decide whether to add them to their hand, discard pile, or the common market, from which all players are then obliged to take cards. Once the deck is empty, the King has come of age, and the auctions begin.
During the second phase, players reveal the cards from the discard pile and bid to obtain them using gold. Their goal is, of course, to complete the collections started in the first phase... and to do everything possible to thwart their opponents' collections.
To win, players must do everything to gain the Majority in each Ministry, and thus secure the most prestigious honorary titles. The twist is that it is possible to change the value of Ministries during the game. And if you are clearly far ahead in a Ministry, your opponents will be happy to lower its value, so that it doesn't bring you much at the end of the game. You will therefore have to position yourself without revealing too much of your intentions... and wait until the end of the game to ensure the value of the Ministry you have brilliantly won.
Note also that the two majority players in each collection will win points, which keeps the struggle for each Ministry open until the very last moment, as no one wants to give up a single point to their opponents. The final resolutions are more spectacular, more dramatic... and often closer.
