Surprised by the parade of 100 demons (Hyakki yakō), players try to reach their pagoda before the arrival of the evil Yōkai.
To guide each other, players must create haikus that attempt to describe the desired location.
A Haiku is a short Japanese poem of 3 lines. It evokes emotions, wonder, and the passage of time.
At each turn, 6 Japanese prints are presented to the players. Each player secretly chooses one, then tries to have the other players guess it by composing a haiku (a mini-poem of 3 lines).
The player must use 3 of the 16 lines available. One after another, each player reads their haiku. The other players must then discuss to choose which print inspired the poem.
If successful, the players move closer to their pagoda. If they fail, the Yōkai move closer. Players win if they reach the pagoda and its safety before the demons.
