Hagakure consists of 30 cards: 17 Villagers with values from 1 to 17, 10 Samurai with values from 18 to 27, and 3 special Samurai, the Old Fools.
In turn, players play a card from their hand. The only rule for playing a card is to play a Samurai if the first card played in the trick was one. The player with the highest value wins the trick and starts the next one. Old Fools played alone have a zero value, but if several are in the same trick, the last one played wins the trick.
Each trick won is worth 1 point. Capturing the smallest Samurai earns an additional 1 point.
A player who has not won any tricks in a round scores -2 points.
At the beginning of the round, each player can play one of their Nobori tokens, allowing them to temporarily modify the game and scoring rules.
