Wild and mysterious lands, Dartmoor stretches as far as the eye can see with its misty moors, wind-swept hills, and ancient forests. Between unpredictable bogs and granite tors emerging from the heather, nature reigns supreme. Deer, ponies, owls, and sheep find refuge there, while local legends still whisper in the wind. In this harsh yet fascinating setting, each step reveals a new fragile balance between flora and fauna.
Discover the wild beauty of Dartmoor National Park with Mixed Forest: Dartmoor. This standalone game transports you to a whole new habitat, populated by unique species and new mechanics.
As in the original Mixed Forest game, players compete to create the most valuable environment by placing trees and shrubs, then attracting species to form an ecologically balanced habitat for flora and fauna.
A standalone game offering new mechanics while retaining the essence of Mixed Forest
The big new feature in Dartmoor is the introduction of Terrain cards, which are placed horizontally and serve as refuge or feeding grounds for different species than those linked to trees or shrubs. Due to the nature of these terrains, species can only be placed above and below a terrain card. Deer and other animals, for example, avoid the bogs or peat areas of the moors. They need water, but will not feel safe near springs or streams. Players must therefore carefully consider where to place their species.
Like its predecessor, Mixed Forest: Dartmoor offers a unique reverse side: each of the 180 cards in the deck can be placed face down to create a bog, if the action allows. Dartmoor's caves are now dealt at the start of the game and offer asymmetrical starting conditions. In addition, the number of tree symbols has been reduced from eight to six, to make it easier to obtain bonuses.
The game system remains true to its predecessor Mixed Forest:
- draw two cards, or play one in your moorland landscape;
- collect the most valuable trees, shrubs, and terrain cards;
- attract species and thus create a balanced ecosystem where flora and fauna coexist in harmony.
