Following the impressive success of Timeline - classic, its author Frédéric Henry had the idea of adapting the timeline construction mechanic to other dimensions. In Cardline Dinosaurs (whose name suggests that there are other Cardline games), players will have to classify dinosaurs along one of three chosen dimensions: size, weight, and lifespan.
Just like Timeline - classic, Cardline is based on a very simple idea, it is beautifully presented, and it aims to tickle your general knowledge without being boring or merciless. As a result, Cardline is playable with everyone, adults and children.
So, what's the principle? - The principle can be summarized in one sentence: the goal is to insert cards in the right place to classify animals along one of the three chosen dimensions: size, weight, or lifespan.
At the beginning of the game, each player receives 4 cards. Players can only look at the front: an illustrated animal is shown. On the back, the card features the same illustration *and* indicates the correct value for the animal's three characteristics.
The goal of the game is to be the first player to have placed all their cards in the correct spot on a line, sorted from the smallest to the largest value of size, weight, or lifespan.
Players take turns. On their turn, the player must choose one of their cards and place it in the correct spot on the line. They can suggest inserting it between two other cards or placing it at one end of the line.
The player checks their proposal by flipping the card over. If they are correct, they place the card where they suggested. If they made a mistake, they discard the card from the game and draw a new one.
