Azul puts you in the role of a tile layer tasked with placing Azulejos in King Manuel I's palace in the 16th century. Each player has a board consisting of a score track, pattern lines, and a palace wall. In each round, tiles (there are 5 different patterns) are drawn from a bag and placed on 'factories'. On their turn, a player can take all tiles of the same pattern from a factory and place them on their pattern lines. When a line is completed with identical tiles, they can place one on their palace wall. By aligning tiles on the king's wall, players score points. Azul is a very clever tile-laying game that breaks away from the usual clichés of abstract games to offer an attractive and refreshing experience.
